Song 1: Moonlight and Phoenix Fire
Artist: Bruce Frostick
Time: 7:55
Album: Travels to Here
Passionate piano solo for a late autumn night.
"Phoenix fire is inside, of course. The fire you can see is just a campfire. But still, the moon and fire and chill air can awaken the phoenix and set her aflight. A trail of sparks in the sky thrills our souls."

Song 2: Pilgrim's Pause - Gratitude - part 1
Artist: Bruce Frostick
Time: 10:02
Album: ... future ...
Two days after Thanksgiving Day, 2007. The Edward Hopper show at the National Gallery is in there also.
The remembrances during the improvisation were of countless good and meaningful times traveling with my love.
Too new to allow downloads yet, since there will be changes, but you can listen.
Song 3: Pilgrim's Pause - Gratitude - part 2
Artist: Bruce Frostick
Time: 8:08
Album: ... future ...
The song is split in two only for convenience, to prevent the MP3 file from being too large.
There is no musical meaning to the split, except that there was a convenient place to split it near the middle.
Song 4: Such Wonder is the Heart
Artist: Bruce Frostick
Time: 7:42
Album: Travels to Here
Solo piano emerging from dissonant to clear beauty.
This transition can occur in the heart when we remember, and remembering, arise from self concern into the clear light of openness, in love with the unknown oncoming miracle of being.
So many words trying to say what has no need of words. Please ignore me and just listen to the music all the way through.
This delight was born May 28, 2006. The flower was born three weeks earlier.

Song 5: A Harmony of Friends
Artist: Bruce Frostick
Time: 4:03
Three friends - clarinet, flute, piano - enjoy an animated conversation.
Sheet music is coming soon...
I would love it if someone would like to perform this in a chamber setting, or at a music school or high school.
I am currently (June 2008) using Finale 2008 to prepare a score and individual parts for it.
The notes are finished, but I still have to add expression and articulation marks, and tempo variations.
Send an email if you are interested. PDF files are available, as well as an MP3 of the transcribed version.

Song 12: Heart Son of Truth
Artist: Bruce Frostick
Time: 6:47
Album: Travels to Here
A lively and happy solo on a synthetic harp.
This piece was inspired by looking on a sunny morning at a picture of His Eminence Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche III, heart-son of His Holiness the 16th Gyalwang Karmapa.
The grand titles are for the benefit of anyone who takes such things seriously. But the truth is, these were truly remarkable men. I had the good fortune to meet Rinpoche in person many years ago.

How this song came to be ...
I got out of bed at night after reading Rumi, thinking to finish the poem "when on waves", whose last line has eluded me for years. This music came to me instead. Here is the poem, with this year's version of the last line. Or maybe it just doesn't want a last line at all...
when
on waves
of endless
causes i ride
no wave my own but
no wave not my dear child
the unceasing change my seat
the vast love my compass and guide
the untold openness my clear sky
the ever presence my soul's constant wind
right here, an endless song of sure liberty
